Cooling work covers the repair side — water pumps, thermostats, radiators, expansion tanks, hoses — and the upgrade side: larger intercoolers for turbo cars, oil coolers for track use, and upgraded radiators for cars that see hard duty. BMW cooling systems in particular have well-known service lives; electric water pumps and plastic expansion tanks are engineered consumables, and we replace them as a system rather than chasing one failed part at a time.
In South Florida, cooling is not optional headroom — 95-degree ambient plus stop-and-go traffic is a stress test every single day, and a track day at Sebring in summer doubles it. One overheat event can warp a head or scuff cylinder walls, turning a $400 water pump job into a five-figure engine. On tuned cars, heat is also power: a saturated stock intercooler pulls timing and boost exactly when you want them most.
Immediately for any temperature warning, coolant smell, or visible leak — do not drive a modern European car that's running hot. Preventively, most BMW water pumps and expansion tanks are due by 80–100k miles. For upgrades: any tuned turbo car still on the stock intercooler, and any car that sees track time in Florida heat.
